-=> Quoting Joseph W. Mack to Sue Turo <=-
Hi Joe,
JWM> I just recently got my point back up and running (yet again) and saw a
JWM> number of messages reffering to this. I can't remember anymore where
JWM> I saw this but I do recall reading somewhere that one possible work
JWM> around to a hen that keeps laying and laying unfertilized eggs is
JWM> "not" to pull them as she lays them, but to allow her to sit on the
JWM> clutch until she tires of it and abandons them. Then, maybe she'll
JWM> quit for a while.
JWM> Peace
Well she has been sitting on them for 21 days and hasn't lost
interest yet...she is still tearing paper and packing it around
the eggs...I'm going to pull them tomorrow...but I've made
arrangements to get her a mate...hopefully it will be a male...so
in the next week or so a new lovebird will be here and in
quarantine...then we will see if that gets her out of this
mode...I don't know what is setting her off...but this makes a
total of 10 eggs she has laid since Christmas...poor little
thing..she would be a good mommy I think...;) I didn't want to
breed any birds...but I can't stand to see her doing this it is
so pitiful...;( I know that I'm going to loose my little pet but
if she is going to do this she might as well have something to
show for all her work...maybe a baby will make her quit...;)
Wait till she finds out how much work they are...hehehe
... Scooby Doo, Cry Baby, GT (Witchypoo), Romeo and Juilet..the flock!!!!
