subject: Used Monitor?

While Rick Van Ruth was typing about Used Monitor?

Rick,

RVR> Last week I went over to a friends and ended up buying 4x1mb 30pin simms
RVR> off him for $55, he threw in an A500 as part of the deal - said it didn't
RVR> work, but couldn't remember why it didn't. He was going to give me the
 RVR> A500 even if I didn't buy the ram :)

The A500 was a good deal, but 1 meg 30 pins (with parity) are availble
here in Melb. for about $8 each. 8^(

I recently bought a set of 4 for the genueyene IBuM that's inhabiting my
spare room, for the princely sum of $20. Amazing what shopping around
will get you.8^)

RVR> Thing is, no power supply, so I couldn't check it out without going
RVR> through a hassle. Got a power supply off a friend for a few secs and
RVR> voila! The A500 booted up to a WB2 "insert disk" screen.
The disk drive
RVR> is stuffed, so that's as far as I got (now I know why it
"didn't work").

RVR> Internal examination reveals its a Rev 6A motherboard with a 1meg Agnus
 RVR> sitting in there.

RVR> Question: Did they ever put 1meg ram on the motherboard in an A500?

Only the A500+ (with 1 meg Agnus) which was, I believe a hacked Rev 6A
motherboard.

RVR> Question: Is a Rev 6A board any good for any decent hacking?

The pick of the bunch. Apparently the 1 meg chip hack is easiest on the
Rev 6A

RVR> Anyway, I got a good source of spare parts now :)

Yeah, I figure it's a great source for CIAs, if nothing else. There's
probably someone in here who's willing to sell (give) you a diskdrive
from a cannibalised A500. If this one comes to pieces in the near
future, I'll yell your way.

 Cache Ya,
 Craig. chutch{at}nwamiga.apana.org.au
