My fist thought was of those Timex Data-link watches that transferred data to
the watch from a computer by a series of blinking, shifting bands. Hold the
watch up to the monitor and transfer data without any other equipment.

This technology worked fine with Windows 95/98, but NT/2000 seemed to break
something. So did laptop LCD screens. It was cool while it lasted.
