| subject: | EMX and Project Manager |
hi Lawrence, LL> From the file Prjmg104.zip: LL> Configuration LL> ----------------------------------------------------------- LL> First you have to install the EMX 0.9a or 0.9b package (Read the LL> README.DOC and INSTALL.DOC of the EMX package). LL> Did this............................ No, you didn't. What you have now is the EMX 0.9b Run Time libraries. That's enough to use programs compiled for EMX, but not to make programs yourself. You need to get the compiler(s) too. ftp://ftp-os2.cdrom.com:/pub/os2/lang/emx09b/* to get the complete package and read the installation instructions ("cd \" before "unzip" etc.). LL> Also......I am a total newbie with C, emx etc and at the moment a LL> bit on the confused side (well, actually more than just a LL> bit....nearly totally confused would be more like it) about just what LL> it is that emx does exactly! To say the docs are a little LL> on the sparse side (for newbies) would be an understatement. GNU C isn't for newbies: get Mix C instead (cheap, and with great tutorials). But it won't make OS/2 programs... LL> If I run emx from an OS/2 command line (no parameters as I LL> haven't gotten that far yet) it will switch to a DOS LL> window..........how do I get it to run in an OS/2 window? emx.exe is a (useless: OS/2 doesn't emulate VCPI) DOS extender. If you want to use EMX-compiled programs in OS/2's DOS boxes, you need RSX.EXE instead (from contribs/dpmigcc5.zip). LL> Does EMX support C++ programming? And even Objective C programming. And (with other front end drivers and libraries) Fortran, Modula-3 and Ada too. It even has an assembler that doesn't speak Intelese:-) regards, hugo* Origin: huug{at}telebyte.nl (2:283/608.5) SEEN-BY: 50/99 270/101 620/243 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 955 SEEN-BY: 712/407 515 517 628 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 283/608 2801/201 28/777 2/777 396/1 270/101 712/515 711/808 809 934 |
