Hello Mark -

CA>> Apparently a bad contact with the memory stick but while I
CA>> was there I decided to 'dust' the CPU heatsink and
CA>> discovered there is no paste between the heatsink and CPU
CA>> - not good.

ml> be careful, there... some CPUs are designed to be seated
ml> with their heatsinks without any heatsink compound...
ml> adding compound can (and has) caused problems by insulating
ml> the chip too much from the heatsink... not knowing what
ml> you've got, its hard to say more...

The heatsink compound doesn't insulate, it does the reverse.

CA>> Somehow introduced another temporary short and in the
CA>> process of unplugging all the drives to test for boot W2K
CA>> removed all the drivers. :-\ W2K is aggressive about
CA>> 'maintaining' itself more than I care for.

ml> in many ways, that's a good thing... this is/was a problem
ml> that w9x and such have... they'd add or move stuff but not
ml> remove it... not removing things stuffed the registry up
ml> and led to confusion in the OS... removing them manually
ml> generally helps things a lot... knowing what to remove is
ml> something that m$ can't even teach as each one is
ml> different...

I have software that does that for me. :-)
