Calling any of the OS/2 APIs is a slow operation because selector and ring
changes are required.  Also, with 32-bit apps calling the vio* API,
thunking may also be required.

The only solution is to write large blocks of text at a time.  If you're
already doing that, keep in mind that text mode windows in the WPS update
much slower than in full-screen mode.
