KR> why some time ago there was a guy reckoning that
KR> the large ide drives could present more than 16
KR> heads, what a fuckwit, wouldn't budge from it either.

RS> Poor old Keef, STILL hasnt noticed that there are drives out there
KR>
KR> still using that one rod?

What remarkable powers of perception you have Keef, maybe you are
foreman material after all. Hard to believe tho after all this time.

KR> such a pity that you picked on a name that has been
KR> used in my family as a term of endearment for years.

Corse the other possibility is that its like the yanks noticing
your bigotry. Maybe even your family has noticed your problems Keef.

KR> you really aren't doing too well lately are you (:

Poor old Keef.

RS> that manage >528MB without the use of LBA or a driver. Poor old Keef.
RS> Try having a look at some of the modern motherboards which have a
RS> LARGE option as well as an LBA option Keef. You also see it called ECHS.

RS> They do that by translating the 1024 cylinders in
RS> commands over the cable into 16 heads as far as DOS is
RS> concerned, WITHOUT using LBA that poor old Keef proclaimed was the
RS> only way coz thats all he could work out from ATA-2. Pathetic really.

KR> i don't seem to remember mentioning lba
KR> as the only way of doing it anywhere rod,

Just goes to show what a problem Alzhiemers can be for farts like you
then Keef. When it was pointed out that there were various ways of
getting around the glitch at 528MB, including more than 16 heads, some
dork kept raving on about ATA-2 and what was in that. Raving on about
LBA as if it was any news to anyone, proclaiming that that was the only
way you could exceed the 528MB. Pity he got egg so comprehensively all
over himself when in fact a variety of approaches were used as well as
LBA, particularly when ATA-2 was rather slow coming.

KR> i do seem to remember saying that ata-2
KR> drives could not present more than 16 heads,

Pity that that says sweet fuck all about anything much, just saying that
it may not comply with ATA-2. No news to anyone Keef. If you look closely
you will even notice that there were some other approaches which didnt
even comply with ATA-1 either. Thats the way the industry works Keef. At
times they thumb their noses at standards when the standard doesnt do what
they want, or is slow to update, as they often are.

KR> and that the translation was done either on the motherboard,

You never ever said anything remotely like that on the >528MB question.
Just proclaimed that the one true path to salvation was LBA for that.
I agree that LBA is the best way to go, pity that that says sweet fuck
all about what some manufacturers may choose to do tho.

KR> or ide adaptor board.

You didnt even mention that one, tho its true too.

KR> this seems to be exactly what you are saying now,

Nope. For the thickys, yes, that is ONE approach which is used to
surmount 528MB, just one of a variety. And one other includes the
IDE drive itself presenting >16 heads, even tho the ATA-2 standard
does not cover that.

KR> a bit of a change from your original stand that
KR> the **drive** could present more than 16 heads.

Nope, its just another way thats been used.

KR> still had no luck finding such drives then?

Once again, for the extremely stupid people like you, I never
bothered too much about which drives took that particular approach,
since I personally think its about the least satisfactory of the
approaches available. You even managed to eventually work out for
yourself from the spare bits how it could indeed be done.

RS> You really are fucking thick arent you Keef ?
RS> Presumably that explains why you manage to still
RS> get lumbered with shift work after all this time.

KR> you really are out of touch with the world
KR> of professional computing aren't you rod?

Fraid not Keef, I know damned well that when a person like you
gets lumbered with that shift work, and clearly has nothing useful
to do with his time then, that thats a pretty graphic commentary
on him and just where he has managed to get in that organisation.

KR> in the purges of the last few years, the thickies went
KR> in the second wave, right after the middle managers.

That cant be true, you are still there, so clearly one of the thickys.
Your pathetically inadequate analysis of that glitch in your mail runs
where you just proclaimed that it couldnt be your system at fault, it
had to be Pauls, shows that very very clearly indeed Keef.

Then there is the tiny matter of how you proclaimed that the yanks never
manage to produce any decent humor on say TV programs or movies and manage
to overlook some bit which while very different to pom humor is nothing
remotely like no humor. Corse just plain bigotry could well explain that.

Then there is the tiny matter of you clearly not having anything
too useful to do there during your time on shift work. So much
for the pathetic claim that you are there to do something vital.

KR> i do notice that you have deleted the bit about the fuckwit
KR> who reckoned that every pc comes with dos and windows, kind
KR> of uncharacteristic for you, i wonder why that could be (:

Coz its just plain wrong Keef you dork. You never did understand what
was said there, I dont have the original to rub your nose in, its not
important enough to matter a stuff anyway. It really is that simple Keef.

KR> corse, i didn't even get round to the character that reckoned that
KR> it is impossible to do a low level format on embedded servo drives,

Yeah, you completely fucked that up didnt you, rabbiting on about
a drive that wasnt even an embedded servo drive. How embarrassing.
