Hello Lawrence!
In a message written on Thursday January 04 1996 at 20:30, Lawrence Lucier
remarks to All:
LL> Then start the OMFLIBS.CMD command file in the \EMX\LIB directory
LL> (PRJMGR needs the OMF-style libraries !!).
LL> What the heck is this all about?
The OMF libs are the more standard DOS and OS/2 style libs instead of
Unix-style or runtime-required libs.
LL> Are the OMF library files available in another package from somewhere
LL> or should they have been included with EMX?
That depends on what you call "included with EMX". If you
downloaded the full package (14 megs through about 18 files, or whatever)
then you probably got it. If you only downloaded parts then it may or may
not be there.
LL> Also......I am a total newbie with C, emx etc and at the moment a bit
LL> on the confused side (well, actually more than just a bit....nearly
LL> totally confused would be more like it) about just what it is that
LL> emx does exactly! To say the docs are a little on the
LL> sparse side (for newbies) would be an understatement.
Yes, EMX is not a newbie's compiler. I have several years experience with
C and even I had trouble with it at first. Oh well, you can't expect that
much for free. :-)
LL> If I run emx from an OS/2 command line (no parameters as I haven't
LL> gotten that far yet) it will switch to a DOS window..........how do I
LL> get it to run in an OS/2 window?
??? Maybe you got a DOS version. Anyhow, the compiler is GCC.EXE. If
that doesn't run as a native OS/2 program then you'd better check around
again. If you have internet access, the full package is on ftp.cdrom.com.
I forget the directory, unfortunately, but I think it's something like
/os2/languages/unix/emx09a. When you find it, I suggest you download the
entire emx09a directory. You can always weed out what you don't need later
on.
LL> Does EMX support C++ programming?
Yes, though I think it's a pain to use. I never tried.
