Earls and Robinson Win Accolades
================================
Two employees at NASA's Glenn Research Center, Deputy Director Dr.
Julian Earls and Daryl Robinson, computer engineer in the Satellite
Networks and Architectures Branch, have been selected to receive Black
Engineer of the Year awards for 2002.
Earls will receive his award in the category of Career Achievement in
Government. This award is given by Career Communications Group, Inc.,
which sponsors the annual Black Engineer of the Year Technology Awards
conference. Dr. Earls will be honored with this award at a Gala
Awards event on February 15 during the 17th Annual Black Engineer of
the Year Awards Professional Development Seminar and Celebration.
Earls was chosen for his outstanding contributions in the field of
Radiation Physics and to the Black Community as well as his commitment
to serving as a role model to people of all ages and backgrounds. "I
am honored at being selected for this prestigious award and am humbled
to be among those who previously were chosen for their unselfish
contributions," said Earls about his achievement.
Earls earned a bachelor's degree in physics from Norfolk State
University, a master's degree in radiation biology from the University
of Rochester School of Medicine, and his doctorate degree in radiation
physics from the University of Michigan. He also earned the equivalent
of a second master's degree in environmental health from the
University of Michigan and is a graduate of the Harvard Business
School's prestigious Program for Management Development
Robinson was likewise recognized by the Career Communications Group by
receiving the Modern-day Technology Leader Award. This award is given
to men and women of color who demonstrate outstanding performance and
will shape the future course of technology and science. Robinson will
receive his Certificate of Recognition during the Modern-day
Technology Leadership Luncheon, which is also held during the 17th
annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards Professional Development
Seminar and Celebration.
Robinson earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Case Western
Reserve University and a master's degree in electrical engineering
from Cleveland State University.
This year's celebration of The Black Engineer of the Year Awards will
be held in Baltimore from February 13 through February 15 and will be
hosted by the Council of Engineering Deans of the Historically Black
Colleges and Universities, Lockheed Martin Corporation,
DaimlerChrysler Corporation, and US Black Engineer & Information
Technology magazine.
