how much range/power does it have?  what's way too fast?

I figure that for a model aircraft you'd only need to run it for about half
an hour between battery changes.

For FM transmitters Something like the talking electronics voyager
(wireless mic/bug) would run for days off a 9v battery, gives about
100m range (they say 600m). The Silicon Chip FM Sterio Transmitter could
run for weeks off an AA cell (3ma drain) (but less range IIRC about 1.5mw
output) both are kits.
