Please remember I was talking about my tosser written in Perl.
Internally, Perl stores arrays as linked lists. Also unclear is may have
been that in the implementation of Perl that I'm using, a string can be 16
megabytes long, and that arrays are, practically, unbound. Other Perl
implementations typically allow strings that can (theoretically) as large
as virtual memory permits, or the size of the target machine's long
integer.
