GC>Could you give me more details about the art? You mentioned that you use
yarn
GC>to make the design on monks cloth.
I'll try.
GC>I'm not familiar with monks cloth... is it an evenweave or something else?
Yep...it is sorta like aida cloth as far as the little squares. You buy
it by the yard...comes in white or ecru...not sure if there are any
other colors. The weave is pretty loose so you have to wash and dry it
before you use it. Two edges are bound and the cut edges you sew a line
across to keep it from raveling and fringe it.
GC>It the design done like a crewel stitch...stain stitch..is it like floss
GC>embroidery? Is is always done in one color like the fabric or a different
GC>color.
You use yarn. The one I was shown used a varigated yarn and a plain
color to accent. You make the design by going up so many then under
then down, etc.....basically weaving. Some stitches will lay on top and
some are woven in.
GC>The design itself... floral... gemetric...
Geometric. Kinda like this. It has a row of the
larger design with the next row a smaller
| version. The equal signs are rows of
/ \ over/under...looks kinda like checker-
/ \ board. It's rather hard to describe
\ / but is very easy....haven't actually
========================== tried it myself as I haven't found the
========================== yarn I want. Ron's SIL tried it and
/ \ after a false start picked it right up
\ / and finished a placemat while we were
\ / still there.

GC>Swedish embroidery dosn't ring a bell for me, but I am very interested.
GC>Perhaps I call it something else.
That's what I was wondering...if it went by another name.
GC>Thanks for all the info
Hope it helped. Would be happy to send you what I have....which isn't
much. :)
