There is a series of mystery novels about a woman who is a minister
(Lutheran?) in a small town. She plays detective when something happens but
the books aren't really about the crimes. The main thrust of the novels is
that her church is poor and she doesn't know how to pay for repairs, etc.
The main mystery is usually how will she pay for the things she needs.
Sorry I can't give you the name of the author (which is terrible because I've
met her) nor the name of the series.
