I just setup a router/firewall/gateway box using Freesco 0.3.1. It has an Archtek 5634BTS modem--ATI7 claims it's a TI RK56000. In my W95 workstation I have a USR Sportster 5685. They basically seem to be the same modem (though they have different dates on the DSP/firmware). OEM'ed, I guess? My phone lines aren't great, but with my USR I can get 36000b reliably without time wasting speed shifts. ATI11 claims my SNR is often in the mid 40's. With the other I get lots of speed shifts down at 32000b! ATI11 claims my SNR is often in the 30's. I removed it from my UPS's spike snubber/filter, and changed the RJ11 line. No joy. I know it could be the minor differences modem between the two brands, even different components from one card to another. But there is also the wiring, connectors, etc., and these machines are in different rooms with different wall plugs. Anybody got any experience with improving home phone line SNR's? The phone company just installed a new demark in working a different problem. ... Let us taunt it; perhaps it will become cross, & go away ___ MultiMail/MS-DOS v0.35 ---* Origin: The Bare Bones BBS (1:105/360) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 105/360 106/2000 633/267 |
