I created TECH-CHAT many years ago in an attempt to provide a home for the
off-topic but interesting posts that endlessly pop up in here. I thought
the name being in alphabetical sequence would make it a simple task for
users to find and use on any BBS, but alas, too many users are too lazy and
just continue to lump all their messages into a single echo.
I was pleased to note that Tulipant at least remembered the name of the
TECH-CHAT echo, and knew that it existed. Having had zero traffic for some
years, It might take a bit of effort to get it into viable routing again,
but I am game if anyone is willing to assist. A moderator simply cannot
run an echo without any users or links.
As its name implies, TECH-CHAT was intended to be the 'chat echo' for the
users of TECH. Many of us enjoy discussing items in depth, in addition to
'cold tech facts' such as "jumper #8 goes on pins #12 and #14",
but, such extended discussions interfere with those searching for purely
TECH answers to their questions.
I would state that 80% or more of the posts here in TECH over the last
three years have been off-topic, but with traffic all over Fido being so
low (except for the flame type echos), I have not seen the need to press
the issue.
Now, however, because of a comment from a user (yes, Tulipant _is_ a user
here, not just a lurker as you imply), I should make an attempt to clean up
this echo and restore it to its former functionality. I'm sure there are
others besides Tulipant who have reverted to 'lurk mode' as there has been
very little in this echo worthy of technical comment.
I am as guilty as any other user here, and moreso since I am the one
responsible for the content here.
That being said, anyone willing to request TECH-CHAT from your BBS, if for
no other reason so that _I_ can post this off-topic message there instead
of here!
Thanks, M.
