JT> Although this is tragic you can still do a lot without legs.
No thanks. And by the way, it's quite expensive to treat massive leg trauma,
and it costs society quite a bit to pay for the disabled.
JT> Once you spill that grey matter in your head, you're pretty much
JT> committed to having other people do everything for you. And I
JT> mean *EVERYTHING*. Everything from feeding you to wiping your
JT> butt. That's what I work with everyday.
I know that. That's why I prefer a nice big juicy DNR in case I have my
brain squirt out. I'd prefer that for the leg amputation too.
See, I am very generous to society, I choose to not have the people pay to
keep my vegetable remains around clogging up space after I am no longer
useful to myself.
JT> There is no reliable and inexpensive protection availible to
JT> protect bicyclists against traumatic amputation. There *IS*
Then clearly, in your world view, the best solution is the federal ban on the
manufacture, sale, possession, and use of bicycles.
JT> reliable and inexpensive protection for serious head injuries:
JT> consistent and consciencious use of a helmet.
True. Explain why you refuse to wear a helmet during motorized transport.
Explain your willful disregard of the head injury statistics that show most
head trauma occurs to the operator and passenger of automobiles during
automobile wrecks. Please explain. We're waiting.
JT> You like to present helmet use as an "individual choice" issue.
And you enjoy ignoring the statistics that condemn your poor personal choices
while attacking the personal choices of others using statistics.
This is not an uncommon tactic employed by the medical mafia. I'm sure you
think you know what is best for me and everyone else. All I ask is that the
government protect me from your "nannyship".
JT> I think only a selfish person can ignore the social cost of treating
JT> and rehabilitating head injuries and the financial and emotional
JT> cost families and friends bear when they have to accommodate their
JT> loved one's new "individual choice."
You've identified yourself as a selfish person because you refuse to wear
your NASCAR approved helmet during motorized transport. I am much more
generous than you because I support and would wish for a DNR order in case of
massive bodily trauma to myself. Are you as willing as I to lay down your
life for the economic enjoyment of others?
And further, do you not equally condemn the people who make a personal choice
of eating at McDonalds? They cost society millions in treating heart disease
and atherosclerosis. What is the number one killer? Head injuries, or heart
attacks? Why do you not support a law requiring that only people with a 15
percent body fat content be allowed to eat at McDonalds? Why? Because you
work in head trauma, and not cardio? Tunnel vision? Why do you ignore these
questions? I want you to think about this, not just spew the insult of
"selfish" at me. Use your head. I know you're intelligent, so use it.
Think.
It is my right to damage my body, if I choose. It makes no difference
whether I choose to damage my body with a Big Mac, Bacardi, or Bicycle.
It's my body, not yours. It is fundamentally mine. The bicycle is mine,
and the body is mine.
Please stop trying to seize control of my body based on how much you perceive
my body to be costing you financially. I'm not asking you to spend money to
support my body. I'm asking that you leave my body and my bicycle alone and
in peace.
