It certainly teaches that, but that is not the only thing that
is taught, if the smacking is used consistently and in specific
contexts.
As Pavlov showed, the brain is capable of association.
If little Johnny gets his wrist slapped every time he tries to
torture the cat, he will probably asssociate torturing the cat
with slapped wrists. Of course, he may also associate cats and
parents with slapped wrists too.
