Beats Me! I saw PC World magazines of '91/'92 vintage that had very
nice advertisements of Geoworks 1.0. It was favorably reviewed as well

They had about the same chance as a snowball in the infernal regions.
Remember, that was the same time Bill Gates' illegal marketing scheme
was in full force. Why would someone want to go against Microsoft given
the contract details that forced them to pay Microsoft for all machines
they made regardless of whether or not they used Microsoft DOS/Windows
or not? What incentive was there for manufacturers to offer any
alternative? How could little Geoworks (then Berkeley Softworks)
compete in that type of environment?
I am a great believer that such arrogance cannot continue. Bill Gates
has not made a great deal of friends among his competitors. One day,
the tide will turn.

Stephen
