DH> I like to catch perch. The Detroit River is full of them. They are
DH> pretty and live in lots of places. Under boat docks, near the bottom
DH> in the weeds, among the rocks. I never eat them though, the ones
DH> I caught so far are too small.
Most of the ones I usually catch are as big as your hand or
even a little bigger. They are a nice size for eating.
Of course, as is the case with Pan Fish, you have to
pick out the Bones. But the taste and flavor is sure good.
There is no danger from any pollution either, since the
Pond (Small Lake) is Spring Fed, running water. Since it is
situated up in the Hill Country in South Central Texas
the only pollution that could possible be around would be the
Meadow Muffins from the few head of Cattle that graze in the
Pasture. They do not even have access to the lake. They have
their own Water System in the Cow Pen areas. There are also
some good sized Small mouthed Bass in there too. Anxious to
get one of those on the Fly Rod. From the ones I have seen
in the shallow part of the Pond, they go to 1 1/2 pounds
to maybe 3 or 4 pounds. I'll try a couple of small Spoons
with spinners. I also have a couple of Cricket Lures. If
that does not do the job I may try Live Frogs or Minnows.
As well as they strike in that water, I should have a
lot of fun.
