John, thanks for the response. At five days they are clinging
tenuously to life under a light plastic cover.
I'm still mightily puzzled as to how they managed to produce
*green* in the fruit. It was the green tips that caught my eye. I
would have passed over the one-inch white stalks as being part of
the pith!
