Hmmmm. . . Methinks there is a difference or two. There
is an arbitrariness to symbols that there is not in perception
(sensory perception, anyway). Symbols are (usually) discrete,
whereas sense perceptions are continuous.
Still, I've seen more than one poet speak of the world as
a kind of language being spoken.
