RG>A modem is a modem, is a modem... RG>Amiga owners don't buy "Amiga modems", IBM owners don't buy "IBM RG>modems", MAC owners don't buy "MaCmodems", so C64 owners don't have to RG>buy "C64 modems". BC> If so where and what cables, RG>The type of cable you need will depend on the type of modem you buy and RG>the type of interface you use. The interface can be a simple voltage RG>converter if you only wish to go to 2400, or if you wish to go faster RG>(I'm running 14.4k) then you need a UART cartridge, such as a RG>swiftlink. RG>These cartridges are the equivilent to the RS232 driver card required RG>to drive a modem at any speed on the IBM's. My confusion over modems and cables was prompted by the thought that since the c64 does not have a serial or parallel port LIKE THOSE ON IBM CLONE PC'S perhaps there did exist `special' modems for the c64. O.k. then a modem is a modem, but a comm port is not a comm port and I have no idea where to get a cable which will allow me to plug a modem (let's say a netcomm m7f) into a commodore 64 serial port. I need a 25pin or 9pin rs232 female or male end and I imagine a male 6pin end like the one on the serial cable which would link a 1541 drive to the c64. Where do you get these cables? Do you have to make them? If so can you suggest where I might get a wiring diagram from? I have read other posted messages where users have discussed successful null modem transfers between an IBM PC clone and a c64 using a terminal program at both ends, but where the hell did they get a cable that would plug into the c64???? I know these cables exist, I have heard people discussing using them, what I need is to get my hands on one.
