G'day Bill,

Replying to a message of Bill Grimsley to Jeff Green:

BG> Our recent election was actually fairly unique, in that the coalition
BG> had NO policies of their own (perhaps they secretly agreed with
 BG> Labor's?).

That seems to be the only way an opposition can get itself voted in. Look
at the Libs in the last couple of Federal elections. They had to defend
their policies while Keating & Co. had fucked up the economy, but
didn't have to defend theirs!

BG> All they did was attempt to bludgeon voters into swinging
BG> away from Labor by blatantly slagging off at them. Funny thing is,
 BG> it nearly worked. :)

I'm amazed it failed. I reckon it was only the publics personal liking of
Goss that got Labor home.

JG>> If they die or resign in NSW, a by-election is held. At least the
JG>> voters get to have their say.

BG> Yeah, that's what happens up here too now. Dunno about the senate
 BG> though.

I didn't think Qld had an upper house?

In the NSW Senate (Legislative Council is the proper name I think), I
believe (not certain) that the replacement must come from the same party as
the corpse.
