1000 lines????  That will not make it as a academic compiler.  When I took
COBOL classes at one time, the skeleton of my programs were over 1000. 
Then again, it was the for the system/370 which required all that JCL.

btw, recently I found out - IBM has VisualAge COBOL!!!  Imagine that,
oject-oriented COBOL!!!  And OO CICS - which will run on OS/2!
