 The only thing that spanking a child, with or without ADD/ADHD
 accomplishes is to show that child that if you are bigger and
 stronger than someone else you can get usually get away with
 inflicting physical pain.

 No, I don't think it is.  There is a world of difference between
 psychological abuse (mental punishment) and requiring a child to sit
 quietly for a predetermined period of time.  Time out is, in effect,
 time out for both the child and the parent.  Gives the parent time to
 cool off, if that is necessary. If the time out concept has been
 explained to the child as a time for her to think about why she is
 there, what she could have done differently to avoid being there and
 how she can handle the same or similar situation in the future then
 it is simply another parenting tool.  The behavior that caused the
 time out to be implemented must discussed immediately after the time
 out and the child helped to express the why, what, how above.
