| subject: | Re: Help with Win98 & USB |
From: Adam Flinton Chris Robinson wrote: I've tried unplugging the hub, removing it from the system/uninstalling it & then plugging it in again. There wasn't any software with the hub it just said plug it in & then when windows says "found new hardware: USB Hub" you let it get the drivers etc from the WIndows CD. Win98 only BSOD'es if I click the upgrade/replace driver for the NTKERN.VXD Quick question: Can I manually delete C:\Windows\System\VMM32.VXD(NTKERN.VXD) or will Windows refuse to boot if I do that. i.e. the Windows install/deinstall might not be cleaning house properly so.....If I delete the file & possibly remove any ref's to it from the reg? e.g. re reg: "To view the contents of the 'new' VMM32.VxD run RegEdit and go to the Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control/VMM32Files where the right pane shows all the files that comprise VMM32.VxD. " Either way I think I might manually delete the actual file & then re-install it (unless someone says "whoa dude, do that & Windows is toast" (or words to that effect)). I've been looking through sites such as: http://tweakhomepc.virtualave.net/upd/vmm32.html Adam > Have you tried uninstalling the USB hub software, reinsalling it and > then plugging the hub in afterwards.
