It sounds like you created a PPP or VPN connection. Some DSL modems =
work this way and require the client computer to establish the =
connection. This is in contrast to some modems which establish the ISP =
connection on their own and expose an ethernet interface to the client.
Windows XP will automatically log in the user when there is one =
account other than Administrator and Guest and that account has no =
password. It doesn't automatically log in accounts with a password. = The
mechanism to support doing this, which was present in earlier = Windows
releases, may still exist. I never used it myself so I don't = know if
it's still around.

I've set up a zillion network and internet connections on Windows. I =
set
another up today, but this one acts differently, and I'm baffled.
The machine has Windows XP Professional. It's on a friend's PC. It =
doesn't
have SP1 on it yet. The ISP (SBC/Yahoo- WARNING! Avoid them!!! IDIOTS!
IDIOTS!) was no help since I wasn't using their "Clog yous system with =
crap"
install.
I used the XP connections wizard, as I have on my XP machines here, =
and it
went about creating the connection as normal, but instead of creating =
the
connection where when she starts the machine it is automatically =
connected
to the internet whenever she "signs" in, she has to clink the icon on =
the
desktop and start up like a modem session. I recreated the connection =
3
times and it made no difference.
I followed the same process I used every time I created a session on =
my
other machines, and I don't know WHAT is different.
I have to have missed something very obvious here. Any pointers here?
Also, what am I overlooking that causes her to have to enter a =
password to
get to the desktop when she boots? She didn't have to until I had her =
change
the password on her machine after she dumped her boyfriend, then it =
started
making her enter the password. Again, I'm missing something because I =
looked
and couldn't figure out what I was missing.
Thanks...
