Have you tried uninstalling the USB hub software, reinsalling it and then
plugging the hub in afterwards. With some USB devices and Windows 98 you
need to install the software first and then plug the USB device in after -
otherwise it screws up.

Is this possible to do or is Windows 98 now BSODing every time you boot?

Chris.

My parents have bought a number of USB devices (USB1) & eventually
the
number has climbed to more then 2 (the number of USB ports on the
machine itself (Palm PDA cradle, 2 epson printers & an
epson scanner).
My advice over the phone (as I was away at the time)...get a USB hub.
Anyone can plug in a hub etc....I thought.
OK problem. My mother followed the how to I wrote exactly & the
USB hub
is plugged in OK & all the devices coming off it are plugged in
OK. My
mother followed all the directions & the Win98 CD is stored in
the CD
drive for use & she just clicked the relevant popup buttons to
install it.
However the "USB Hub" in the system view is not working
as it says the
NTKERN.VXD is not working properly.
If you try to re-install the USB hub sh*t happens. Unplug the hub remove
the device & reboot. OK so far. Then plugin the hub
& it says
"found new
hardware "USB hub"" etc . Install from the Win 98
CD & then bang
a BSOD
with:
"C:\Windows\System\VMM32.VXD(NTKERN.VXD)
Fatal Exception 0E has occurred at 0028:cO26B3D1 in NTKERN(06)+
000005E1"
Any ideas? Does Win 98 have a "refresh from CD"
semi-reinstall / fix
option? AFAICT no fixes of Windows updates have ever occurred &
the
machine is running the exact same level of Win98 as is on the CD.
I can not believe that something which is meant to be as simple as
plugging in a USB hub has lead to this....I have to admit to blaming
my
mother initially over the phone because I could not believe that
something so simple could have gone wrong w/o my mother &
her "static
fingers"....but after all the "OK unplug the hardware
& I'll do
it" the
embarrasment of "actually mum it does look like it wasn't
your fault"......
