Eid Mubarak is the second major Islamic holiday and celebration of
the year. This year it runs from the evening of Saturday, July 9
and ends in the evening of Wednesday, July 13. In common with the
other two Abrahamic religions it's all about Abraham, his son and
that lamb. So once again the Yellowknife Co-Op ran a second flyer
with specials especially for our growing Moslem community, as well
as the regular weekly one. The one item that attracted my was leg of
lamb for $6/lb. That's the same price as extra-lean hamburg or blade
steak these days! (It was $14.50 the same day at Loblaws.)

The online flyer came out last Friday (June 23) and the prices were
effective same day. I went there right after work and they were
already sold out! The meat guy said there might be more on the next
truck (late Sat.). So I called early Monday to see if they had any
and got voice mail. On Tuesday I got a call back saying they were
sold out a second time but that there were 2 in the back with my
name on it. Now, that's good service! I took both of them and
they're resting in my freezer until the mood strikes.

There was also special purchases and sales on Halal beef and
chicken, baklava, pita, ghee, spices, ginger paste and chiles etc.
but I just bought the lamb. I just might go back for some baklava
though.
