On the 000- I accept that it excessively bothers some people and have
sought a ¨way around listing that way. Sadly, by 'percentage' I probably
list the ¨largest amount of it if you take out the admin zonegate listings.

It seems I've started a slight stir as well on them with a standard Z6 uses
for ¨'what to do when you have no choice' in non-static IP ION listings.
It's very ¨easy to have a 'standard' with that in a tiny zone. It seemed
good to have one ¨with no variation that was more easily blocked which a
sysop with a little ¨configuration can work with as it doesnt have 15
variations to deal with.

In Z6, look for 000-0-0-0-0. Thats an ION without a static IP. You can
use a ¨batch file or one of the many tools to look for that exact string
and replace ¨with '-UnPubished-' and most mailers and tools we have tested
will work just ¨spiffy. Makenl users will have to use the newest version
to then process a Z6 ¨stub, but there you have the Z6 segment for all but 2
systems translated ¨already. The other 2 have static IP's listed (one
shifted but I do not have ¨the new static and the other resloved last I
checked to that person but couldnt ¨find a BBS, just a Chinese web site).

We didnt do anything really 'odd', just relaized that phone number
conventions ¨out here in Asia vary so widely that there isnt really any
'normalish' feeling ¨to the number of digits or where they are placed.
That made the leap to a quad ¨of 0's rather easy here. Shortening to the
most space saving made sense too ¨and prepending to the expected 000- front
part suited those with existing ¨filters so they didnt have to adapt
anything at all.

I gather some telnet folks are slightly upset but i havent seen any actual
¨messages about that. I do not understand what the difference would be to
them ¨from 000-0-0-0-0 and 000-000-0000 or 000-000-000-0000 (seemingly the
most ¨common Z1 uses if they dont get strange and prepend 1- to it). There
was some ¨talk at one stage though of making telnet users a 'hook' by
making the last ¨digit a 1 or a 2 which would be fine if they need that.
The aim here in Z6 was ¨a standard with no variation so *others* would have
as little inconvience as ¨possible in filtering out our excessive
percentage of 000- numbers. That ¨brings us back to the start of this
conversation.

I cant get rid of 000- in Z6 without using the new makenl features. It got
¨worse this past week when you get the new nodelist segment. It had to go
on RC ¨nodes now.

It's known in ZCC and has been for some time, that Z6 is preparing to
demize ¨with remaining nodes to shift to Z3. Unless something radical
happens in the ¨next 2 months, it will happen this summer (when I
anticipate being home for ¨several weeks straight incase there are problems
and can fix them easier and ¨fast). What that would mean to you and others
curious on how to use ¨000-0-0-0-0 is you should look fairly soon. Its
there now though and has been ¨for 6 months or longer. Nary a word on any
problems technical about it.
