JV> I don't know. I had a nest in my Lantana bush last year, but
JV> I pulled all of that up. I have some rot in the eaves of my
JV> roof thanks to shoddy construction of a famous pool company
JV> here in Melbourne. Something is making a nest in there and
JV> I don't know if it's a bird or a squirrel. I've never seen
JV> anything go in or out. I haven't gotten around to finding
JV> a piece of metal big enough to block the hole.
Better check that hole out, squirrels in particular can make a
real mess of things from what I've heard.
JV> I do that anyway. I've never been big on wearing hats, but
JV> I wear a mesh pith helmet when I'm mowing the lawn. It keeps
JV> the sun and sweat out of my eyes. It also keeps the golf balls
JV> off my noggin (I hope). I abut a golf course, and have found
JV> golf balls out on my front lawn. I was throwing bread out for
JV> the birds the other day, and a golf ball landed about 8 feet
JV> between me and my house. The guy rode up, asked where his ball
JV> was. When I told him it amlost hit me, he took the ball and
JV> left. No apologies. Sometimes, to be a wise guy, I wear my
JV> hard hat out back......
I would NOT want to live near a golf course. Well if you plan to
be where the mockingbird wants its babies that hard hat may
come in handy!! I have quite a few stray cats roaming
around and that does help on the mockingbird problem. They do
eat a lot of insects but I sure get mad when they start on my
tomatoes. We used to use bird netting but then I had a couple of
baby grackles get all tangled up in it, so quit that. I don't
mind so much if the bird picks one tomato and munches on that, but
sometimes we get one that has to taste every darn one on the
vine. Then I do get rather MAD!
