I apparently came in a few years later when list was $750 but I still
paid a stiff price for that 9600 speed demon.  I too didn't regret it
after a few on line sessions.

I hate to say it, but that time has come and gone.  The modems and
competition are so close that you just can't offer modem cheaper than
profit margin allows.

I agree, but that is failing.  I've found some very good bbs, that
mimic some of my favorite old time bbs, via telnet; and it doesn't cost
me a long distance call.  I believe this is the future of bbs.  It may
extend the life of Fidonet but on that I don't know for how long since
it (telnet) by virtue needs internet access and that lends to
newsgroups.
