DA>JS> to spend, I'd get a $400 Savage with a $200 scope, and a $100
DA>JS> chinese SKS carbine. You might spend an additional $100 on a
DA>JS> synthetic stock and a few 30 round mags for the SKS, but you will
DA>JS> better acheive both optimum long and medium range performance.
DA>My son Steve has a question about modifications to the SKS. He's used to
DA>using a sling when he shoots and has a lot of problems with the fabric
DA>sling that came on his (Russian) SKS. We're wondering if the fact that
DA>the sling mounts to the *side* of the barrel would affect accuracy if we
DA>were to replace it with a usable sling.
Your best bet would be to mount new swivels to the underside of
the butt stock. side mounted slings don't work too well as the
angle of pull tends to turn the rifle on its' side. Also a sling
mounted to the barrel will definately affect the strike of the
bullet.
