Well, since I didn't play the blues, I didn't get any standing ovation.
Darn. (Some of you will understand that! :) )
But the applause did feel good. And, in my humble way of saying, I
think I played and sang good, too. First one was Big Daddy's version of
"Whip It." Yep, the Devo tune. BD's version sounded like a real
beatnik version, though, with slap acoustic bass and cool finger snappin'.
2nd was Todd Rundgren's "Cliche," a song I've always thought was a good
acoustic song.
Last was Miles Davis' "Nardis," but I played it like Ralph Towner did on
his live record.
It was one of those cold Southern nights (but then, we light our
fireplaces when it dips below 48 degrees) so the place wasn't exactly
jam-packed. But the reaction was good enough for me to get back on track to
gettin' One-Night Otis going.
The other acts I saw were semi-folkie people...some cover, some
originals. One guy did a song...gee, the first verse was something like "I
got cold, I got bored, I got high."
2nd verse was "I got bored from getting high, ooh, ain't we there?"
My God, how bad does it have to get before the hook comes out from stage left
and pulls these clowns off, eh?
