   I think going to the church that he attends would be a good suggestion. 
But 
I think that I would just go as a visitor and ask around to see who he is and 
then when you find out who he is I would then decide if you want to talk to 
him or find another way of doing it. (You never know the preacher may be 
buddy 
buddy with him and tell him everything, or your father may never have told 
anyone and then do you really want the preacher to say anything?)
