*** Quoting Kent Anderson from a message to Carol Shenkenberger ***
CS> When I was 5, an accident placed me in a wheelchair. When I was 8, I
CS> walked free of it forever. I wasnt ignorant. When I was 9, I was
CS> temporarily blinded for 6 months. I did not know if it would end, nor
CS> did the Doctors, but I went to school and learned to listen well.
CS> When my sight came back fully, I was not behind. I was not ignorant
CS> because I used what I had, to the best I could. Had I stayed blind, I
CS> would have done rather well I think.
CS> Convincing yourself to *try* is 90% of the battle. Been there, know
CS> the story. Yes, sometimes you get knocked down, but you get back up
CS> again and sallay forth yet one more time until you DO get what you
CS> want.
KA> Carol,
KA> I just wanted to say that for my money, the world is a much better
KA> place because you are in it. Can't quite say the same for Ryan.
I think you are wrong. I thin Ryan just hasnt yet been knocked down and
gotten up. !Yet!. He will. He is young, and it's popular to say some things
right now without thought. he's repeating by rote what his 'buds' say and not
yet thinking on his own. Thats pretty normal. On may subjects I did that at
his age too, and i'm sure I do it today on some subjects but am not aware of
it.
The big thing is to try. It matters not what another's measure stick
expects, but that you have progressed in something you wanted to be better
.
Capitalism may not be perfect, but nothing else we have seen allows a harder
worker to get ahead of the rest of the herd.
