You've mentioned two of my favorites. I grew up in New York City and I
was always jealous of writers who grew up in isolated rural areas.
Somehow the characters there were much more interesting to write about.
I'm not sure why exactly, but I think that there's so much stimulation
in a big city, that everyone is too busy to delve deeply into themselves
and come up with those rural idiosyncracies I love to read about.
