I was thinking of the scenario where you are an admin who needs to install
a new W2000 server for some purpose. What steps do you perform to get it
fully patched?
MBSA is a lot of fun with lots of nice icons to click on, but if I had to
regularly install machines, I would soon get tired of it.
I cannot understand why anyone would contemplate using a third-party tool
to update the operating system. Shavlik is somewhat an exception because
they have been blessed by Microsoft and (apparently) use an MS-authored xml
file to determine what should be done.
However, I am somewhat old fashioned and like the supplier of an operating
system to also supply the patches to the operating system, with no
third-party trickery.
