Last thing I can think of, are you using 8.3 for any path's??
I would think a longer machine name would be ok if its all text/numeric (no 
spaces, multi period's.  I've had funny prob's with W95 & spaces in the path 
and/or multi periods  (ie filename.ext.duh)..
After that, I'm outa ideas..
