As a non-literalist, (And fairly new here) Let me add my small
agreeing voice to yours in this.
I believe there is so much easily understood good in the book that I do
thump...that _most-_discussion on the fiddled bits is largely
hobby rather than religion. (_My_ highly prejudicial opinion.)
What currently interests me is a couple of references that seem to direct
one's attention _away_ from Jesus as other than (an inspired) man,
His "Why call ye me good?" and more importantly
II Col 3:8.
As an off topic aside, I believe strongly that on this planet at this time
we are going to have to come to the realization that the God of the
Muslims, Jews,
Zorasterans et cetera, et al, are the exact same God which no man has seen.
(I guess that would exclude non-monotheists, but I'm not convinced.
Christians say 'love' and Islam says 'compassion and mercy'
Both say God is great.
Killing seems to be a very poor mode of reconciliation :-|
