Yes, that was a problem. I looked at a couple of availabl;e aps
but they weren't for me. The ones I use -- and I must admit it is
only occasionally -- are those that came with it.

Talking of freebies that came with an OS, I remember using
Macintosh's MacDraw back in the late 80's. That was a powerful
little beastie!!!!

I wish I had something like that today!

Oh, yes I understand what you're saying. For internet connection
it certainly is advisable to have stuff like that.

But as someone pointed out either here or in another echo, this
is not multitasking since the computer is still doing only one
function at a time. It isn't even interleaving of tasks as might
be happening with a print spooler.

The firewall and virus checking are NOT running all the time,
either in the foreground or the background. Rather it is that
tasks are routed through them so that they can perform their
duties WHEN REQUIRED!

Exactly the same is done in DOS, for example by Thunderbyte.
