Sorry about that I know the feeling :-(
Let a deal pass on a really nice used Honda CB-750 about three
years ago :-( Could have purchased for 50 bucks, replaced a few
parts out of Cycle Salvage and with maybe 5 hours work have
made about a grand profit! Could not have managed the job due to
injuries so let it pass.

I swap power supplies all the time and paying attention to certain 
details such as amperage, voltage and polarity have never had
a problem. Some years back I even made my own customized
power supplies as needed.
Tossed all my electronic components three years back 
because I can no longer work with that stuff either.
Wish I'd kept one salvaged part though.
I recovered a torroid transformer from a very high wattage
car stereo that would have made a great basis for a 12 volt
switching PS to run a computer off a deep discharge battery.
