Pevely, MO (April 3, 2004) The 2004 racing season got off to a great
start at the I-55 Raceway. Randy Korte of Highland, IL put on a
dominating performance in the U.M.P. Late Model division. Korte brought
out the broom and swept the night's events.

Korte moved underneath Kevin Gundaker and took the lead on lap two and
went on to victory. Justin Allgaier recovered from a bad showing in his
qualifying heat and worked his way up from starting deep in the field to
finish second. Mark Voigt battled all twenty-five laps with Kevin
Gundaker and Ed Dixon as they traded positions in the top five throughout
the entire event. All three drivers were running different lines around
the track for most of the event. Dixon was on the top, bouncing off the
outside wall almost every lap while Voigt used the middle line and
Gundaker paced around the bottom. Voigt came out ahead and took the third
spot while Gundaker claimed fourth. Danny Haynes moved into the battle
and took fifth from Dixon, Dixon settled for sixth.
