Hi Kathy
People will make the mistake of cleaning their acrylic cage with paper
towels and this is a no no. Paper towels often contain impurities that
will scratch the plexiglass. Also lava rocks and any other abrasive
toys will add to this, however there are a few products that will remove
light scratches but not deep gouges. Mr Chauvin can recommend the name
brand to use.The oldest acrylic cage I have is about 4 years old and has a
few minor scratches but these can be removed. Like you I also do not like
anything that takes away from the beauty of the bird. Mr Chauvin has some
much older cages than we have and they look great. It's mainly how people
clean them.
I also feel that by using acrylic cages you can sanitize the bird's
environment better than that of the wire cages. The Macaw cage is made of
Lexan which is much stronger than acrylic. If you have any questions
please drop a line or you can call the Chauvins (pronounced like show
vans) at 504 876-7966 after 5pm CST.
Thanks Anita
