In order for me to get to an area where there is little traffic I have to 
ride through busy city streets, so I end up wearing a helmit anyway.  Just as 
when driving a car, a good a good biker can be the victim of an accident 
through no fault of his own.  I was almost hit by a truck who made a narrow 
turn in front of me.  I was just going a short distance, so I had no helmit.  
I think I shall reconsider next time.  Anyway, I can be a bit of a clutz on 
my bike so it is for my own good.  Plus, a helmit in summer keeps the heat 
off...if it has good ventilation.
