VGA doesn't mean 640x480x8bpp. SVGA is fine. My laptop with a clean =
install of Windows will run 1400x1050 using the VGA driver.

1. VGA-16 is so painful these days that I really can't operate that =
way for
long. This sometimes happens only once a day, or twice on every =
second day,
etc.
2. I'm not convinced VGA-16 is a valid test for anything subtle these =
days.
Many cards work poorly these days in that mode.
Will MS accept some unaccelerated SVGA 8x6 generic something-driver =
yet as a
test for stability? You actually need 16k colors to work now, but I'd =
buy
256 to test, I guess. What's the NT equivalent of 98's 8x6x16 SVGA,
unaccelerated?
I realize the VGA boot in NT has always been something special, =
loading far
fewer drivers. Is the kernel different in that mode, too?
