Its not a stupid quirk. Its an absolute necessity in order to view on the
page what you will get on the printer. Its possible to construct a document
which will print properly on a multitude of printers, but it requires that
certain formatting rules be followed. The most critical of these is to never
use spaces and multiple tabs to position text on a page. Use of tables and
tab settings also helps to get things formatted properly.
