EP> No, but it does make it very unlikely the "old timers" who
EP> told that story had any idea what they were talking about.
EP> Mind telling me where you got the idea the NRA backed the
EP> 1934 legislation? Since none of us were around then, I assume
EP> you're quoting from the accounts of someone who *was* there.
EP> I know you "understand" that NRA backed the legislation. I
EP> know Guy "heard the old timers say" that NRA backed it. I'm
EP> asking who the old timers are, that are saying these things?
EP> Did they know the legislative process at that time? Or are
EP> these old timers just repeating any rumor they heard? Ernie
1934 isn't all that long ago Earnest. 62 years past. There's a whole
passel of folk that were in their 20's and 30's back then, still alive
and talking today. We call them 80 year olds and 90 year olds. Not all
are senile. I can tick off about 20 folk that fit that age group in my
family, alive and well, right now.
As for the NRA backing it comes from a few different areas.
Gun conferences in cyber space. Not the anti-gun folk that come and go
kicking up muck, but gun owning folk. Not sure about all the ages, but
some around the keyboard are older then dirt. Others are pretty
politically involved and such. Makes for quite interesting and
informative reading.
One other source that should interest you is the NRA. Seems they
themselves acknowledge, even proclaim, they backed it. It's on the NRA
home page as I recall. I'm also pretty sure I've read it a time or two
in the American Hunter.
