On Wednesday, I spent about half a day touring the Lady Bird Johnson
(National) Wildflower Research Center here in Austin, Tx. (Not nearly
long enough) What a beautiful site. For a true gardener, it is a
tremendous source of visual pleasure and information on growing native
plants of all areas of the country. The site has many suggested
plantings of Texas's native plants and wildfowers for ecological
soundness.
For you outside Texas who have the movie concept of Texas as desert
and cactus - not so. In the spring, Texas roadsides blaze with a
variety of colors that surpass anything I have seen elsewhere. Most of
these plants are represented at The Center, and this is a particularly
good time of year to see most of them in bloom.
If you do the Internet, for more information, and a look at the site,
logon to

You'll enjoy it. And, if you ever get down this way, don't miss it.
