   This isn't quite the same thing, but one of the episodes of TAS was 
written by the author of the Ringworld saga using some of his own concepts 
and species, thus suggesting that all his stories are part of the Trek 
universe.
   That's probably one of the reasons TAS isn't considered canon. :)
